This book contains many real life examples derived from the author’s experience as a Linux system and network administrator, trainer and consultant. It would be really nice if it would at least show all the options but have them greyed out and a tooltip would tell you what other options you needed to get that option to turn compie.
If you have 1 gig of ram, and “Nvidia” modules loaded, you will not be able to use the card by now, either use “nv” driver or do not use highmem. What caused me the problems was that I forgot to run lilo to make sure it was pointing to the newest version of the kernel that I just compiled.
Then compile it as a module or in the kernel as you like. That code is gone now for exactly this reason, the misdetection confused lots of people. I have that built as a module and V4l information built in to the kernel.
Using bttv, i2c and xawtv for Linux
This makes debugging very difficult for me. If you already have compiled the kernel at least once, you probably don’t have do worry about this. It took a couple iterations of recompiling the kernel and playing with the options to find which ones I needed but I did tbtv it working.
